Our Organisation

Goolum Goolum Aboriginal Co-operative has been delivering a range of services to the Indigenous community throughout the Wimmera since 1983.

Our Story

Goolum Goolum Aboriginal Co-operative (GGAC) first began August 1979, out of a need for an Indigenous health organisation to be located closer to the Wimmera. The nearest Aboriginal health services were located in Ballarat and Bendigo.

The Co-operative formed in 1982 and became Incorporated in 1983.  It was situated at Droylsden House, a historic building in Baillie Street Horsham, from 1987 to 2006.

GGAC relocated to its current location, a purpose-built health facility in Hamilton Street Horsham, in August 2006.

The official opening of the Hamilton Street building was in May 2007 which coincided with the Co-operative’s 25th anniversary and Reconciliation Week, which celebrated then Prime Minister Kevin Rudd’s apology to the Stolen Generation.

Board of Directors

GGAC Board Members are elected from within the membership for a period of three years. Elections take place in November each year at the Annual General meeting.

The GGAC Board Members provide leadership and governance and are responsible for the strategic direction of the organisation. They make decisions on Goolum Goolum’s strategic objectives and monitor the implementation of the Strategic Plan. Board Members have direct accountability and responsibility to their communities, as well as their accountabilities for governance and contract compliance with the Commonwealth and state funding bodies.
