Goolum Goolum Aboriginal Co-operative
Board Statement
To our community,
We speak to you today with heavy hearts and deep respect.
Many of you will now be aware of the recent conviction of a former staff member and community Elder. This news is distressing and painful, particularly given the trust placed in those who have walked beside us, worked with our young people, and shared in our cultural spaces.
As an Aboriginal Community Organisation, Goolum Goolum upholds strong values of respect, safety, and cultural responsibility. What has occurred goes against everything we stand for. We acknowledge the hurt this has caused and stand firmly with those in our community who are impacted.
We recognise that this news may bring feelings of anger, confusion, and betrayal. You are not alone. We are here to support you. Our doors and hearts are open, whether you need someone to yarn with, access counselling, or simply space to process.
We reaffirm our commitment to being a safe, accountable organisation. The wellbeing of our children, families, and community remains our highest priority. We continue to review our practices to ensure they are grounded in safety, integrity, and transparency.
Now is a time for care, courage, and community. Let us stand together, speak truthfully, and continue the important work of healing and protecting the generations to come.
If you or someone you know needs support, please contact our Social and Emotional Wellbeing Team.
In strength and unity,
The Board of Directors
